Board of Trustees

Providing Strategic Leadership for the Future of Brazos Christian School

Brazos Christian School is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees who serve as representatives of both God and the school's moral owners. These moral owners include parents, faculty, and members of the broader Christian community who share in the school’s vision and are invested in its mission.

Working in partnership with the Head of School, trustees steward Brazos Christian School's resources, vision, and long-term direction through prayerful leadership and responsible governance. Click here for more information.

Our Mission

Training, Equipping & Educating Students to Impact the World for Jesus

Brazos Christian School exists to partner with families in providing a Christ-centered education that cultivates academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a biblical worldview. As a non-denominational school, BCS is rooted in the truth of Scripture and committed to developing students who love the Lord, think critically, and serve others with humility and purpose.

Governance at BCS

Governance, Not Management

According to the Bylaws of Brazos Christian School, the Board of Trustees exercises the powers of the Corporation and manages its affairs through governance and strategic oversight. The Board establishes direction, policy, and accountability while empowering school leadership to manage daily operations.

The Board's primary responsibilities include:

  • Preserving and advancing the mission and vision of BCS
  • Providing financial oversight and accountability
  • Establishing governance policies
  • Long-range strategic planning
  • Selecting, supporting, and evaluating the Head of School
  • Ensuring institutional sustainability
  • Protecting the school's Statement of Faith and biblical foundation
  • Serving as ambassadors for the school and its mission

The Board's only direct employee is the Head of School, who serves as the school's Chief Executive Officer and oversees academics, personnel, admissions, student life, operations, and administration.

Trustee Qualifications

Trustees are selected based on their commitment to Christ, leadership abilities, and dedication to Christian education.

According to the BCS Bylaws, Trustees:

  • Must be Christians
  • Must affirm the school's Statement of Faith
  • Must support the Mission and Purpose of Brazos Christian School
  • Must not be employees of the school or spouses of employees
  • Must be willing to actively participate in governance and committee service
  • Must exercise wise stewardship and fiduciary responsibility on behalf of the school

Trustees serve three-year terms and may be re-elected in accordance with the provisions of the Bylaws.

Board Committees

The Board fulfills much of its work through standing committees established in the Bylaws.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee oversees Board development, trustee nominations, governance policies, and periodic review of the school's governing documents. The committee is also responsible for training new trustees and evaluating Board effectiveness.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee provides oversight of the school's financial condition, budgeting process, audits, insurance, investments, and financial stewardship. The Treasurer serves as Chair of this committee.

Philanthropy Committee

The Philanthropy Committee oversees fundraising activities and advancement efforts that support the mission and future growth of Brazos Christian School.

Statement of Faith

All Trustees affirm the Brazos Christian School Statement of Faith and are committed to ensuring that the school remains rooted in biblical truth and Christian discipleship. The Board seeks God's wisdom in all decisions and endeavors to lead with integrity, humility, and faithfulness. All Trustees must be committed Christians who meet the biblical qualifications for leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3. Trustees may be men or women and are required to affirm without reservation the school’s Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Purpose.
