Communicating With Purpose
This year, I have had the opportunity to step into a new communications role at Brazos Christian School, the first position of its kind here at BCS. Because the role is new, my responsibilities include not only managing communication but also helping us think intentionally about how we communicate as a school.
And believe me, there is plenty to think about!
BCS is a busy place. Every week there are events to promote, reminders to send, accomplishments to celebrate, stories to tell, and important information our families need to know. With so much happening, good communication isn't simply about sending more information. In fact, sometimes more communication just creates more noise. Our goal is to communicate better.
Part of communicating better is listening. As we move through this year, we are looking at numerous ways to strengthen communication and engagement across our community. That includes evaluating how we use our newsletters, website, email, text alerts, social media, and other communication tools. We're considering what information belongs where, how often to share it, and how to make it easier for families to find what they need. Next week, we’ll send a short survey to our families asking how you prefer to receive information from BCS, what’s working well, and where we can improve. Be on the lookout for it!
We're also thinking beyond announcements and reminders. Communication is an important part of telling the story of BCS. Amazing things are happening in our classrooms, on the field, in our gyms, on our stages, in chapel, and throughout our campus every day. We want to do a better job of sharing those stories and giving our families and our community at large a window into who we are and what makes BCS special.
Will we get it right every time? No. This is a new role, and improving communication across an entire school community will be an ongoing process. We will try things, learn what works, make adjustments, and continue looking for ways to improve to best serve our families.
What I hope you will see most throughout the year is intentionality. We are committed to strengthening communication between BCS and our families. We want to create more opportunities for connection and engagement, and make our communication clearer, more consistent, and more purposeful.
We won't be perfect, but we're working at it, and I'm excited about where we're headed.
