Strategic Plan Reveal
At this week’s Leadership Coffee, Board Chair Clint Dempsey and I introduced BCS’s new Strategic Growth Plan. I’m grateful to the families who joined us, and I’m pleased to share the full plan with our community through this editorial.
We spent almost a year developing this plan through listening, study, and prayer. Families, students, faculty, staff, and trustees shared their perspectives through surveys, focus groups, and conversations. We also examined enrollment, finances, academic programs, and the changing needs of our community. That work helped us identify four priorities for the next five years: spiritual formation, faculty and culture, educational experience, and economic stability.
Those priorities touch every part of school life. We want students to do more than encounter biblical teaching; we want them to grow in faith and learn to live it out. We want to invest in excellent teachers and a healthy school culture. We want an educational experience that challenges and supports students across every grade. And we want to steward our resources wisely so BCS can continue serving families for generations to come.
At the end of the Leadership Coffee, I shared a short video with clips from our students’ senior theses. Every senior writes a thesis explaining what they believe across ten foundational areas of Christian theology and grounding those convictions in Scripture. They also analyze a contemporary issue and consider how their faith will shape their calling and future work. Our honors students take the additional step of defending their theses. The video gives us a glimpse of students doing something that matters deeply: thinking through difficult questions, knowing why they believe what they believe, and communicating those beliefs in their own words.
Our children are growing up in a world where cars can drive themselves, and AI can produce an answer or a polished essay in seconds. Those tools will continue to change how students learn and work. But they make it all the more vital that our graduates are grounded in their faith, able to think deeply and logically, and prepared to articulate their convictions with clarity and grace.
We want them to engage the world around them and see how their gifts and future work can serve God and others.
That kind of formation does not happen through a single course or a senior project alone. It takes years of faithful teaching, meaningful relationships, high expectations, and partnership with families. Our strategic plan is meant to strengthen that work while holding firmly to our mission: training, equipping, and educating students to impact the world for Jesus.
I hope you will take time to read the plan and see where we are headed. Thank you for your partnership, your prayers, and the trust you place in BCS.
